FIELD: ophthalmology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to copolymer materials used as ophthalmologic means such as contact lenses, intraocular lenses, keratoprostheses, and corneal rings, or inserts, in particular for intraocular flexible lenses made from acrylic copolymer materials. Invention provides hydratable copolymer containing three monomer components: first component contains aryl (meth)acrylate; second component, which is other than acrylate, contains monomer including aromatic ring with substituent with at least one unsaturated ethylene moiety; and third component contains monomer capable of forming hydrogels with high content of water. Copolymer is prepared via polymerization of the three monomer components in presence of cross-linking agent. Resulting copolymer has high refraction factor (above 1.5) and, in dry state, it is sufficiently hard to be cut and polished and becomes soft and flexible on hydration.
EFFECT: improved consumer's properties of copolymer.
