MELT-PROCESSING THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITIONS Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

Abstract RU 2238286 C2

FIELD: polymer materials.

SUBSTANCE: thermoplastic compositions intended for manufacturing products having surfaces with relatively low gloss are obtained by mixing 50-99.5% of thermoplastic polymer processed from melt and 0.5-50% of particulate (maximum particle size 5 mm) copolymer containing the rest of monomer blend containing at least 50% method of methyl methacrylate, at least 1% and below 20% of copolymerizable acrylic monomer containing at least one alkyl (meth)acrylate, and at least 0.1% of copolymerizable cross-linking monomer. Processed polymer and copolymer are mixed in the form of particles under shear conditions so that polymer particles are destroyed. In another embodiment, preparation of composition involves contact of the same constituents and is distinguished by using polymer particles more than 100 mcm and less than 250 mcm in size. Product formation process comprises preparation of above-defined composition and shaping thereof. An example of formation of a product with top layer comprises preparation of composition and extruding it to form top layer with thickness less than diameter of copolymer particles. Product includes substrate and top layer material obtained from composition of invention.

EFFECT: enabled fabrication of products with surface having relatively low gloss, which are comparable, in their physical properties, with acrylic compositions having high gloss.
