FIELD: molecular biology.

SUBSTANCE: method involves bombarding layer of substance under study deposited on substrate, with accelerated nanocluster metal ions. Bombarding particles kinetic energy variable over wide range is liberated as a result of elastic impact with molecules of substance under study and substrate atoms. Desorbed molecular ions are recorded with time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The time-of-flight mass specters obtained in self-superposition mode show that the nanoions of 107 amu mass and energy of 220 keV are capable of desorbing biomolecular ions of several thousand atomic mass units.

EFFECT: higher upper limit of measurable biomolecule mass; improved sensitivity of the method.
