FIELD: producing radioactive isotopes in charged particle accelerators and cyclotrons using internal proton beam.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method for producing cobalt-57 and cadmium-109 isotopes includes manufacture of double-layer target, its irradiation by accelerated proton beam, and chemical recovery of target. Double-layer target is manufactured by covering metal substrate with metal silver-109 layer using diffusion welding, applying nickel-58 layer using electrochemical process, this being followed by diffusion welding of silver-109 and nickel-58 layers; target is irradiated with protons whose original energy is such that their energy at transition between silver-109 and nickel-58 layers is between 13 and 15 MeV. In this way cobalt-57 is produced with desired characteristics as far as amount of Co-56 and Co-58 impurities is concerned.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency in radionuclide production, facilitated recovery of irradiated target, enhanced safety.
