FIELD: non-linear fiber and integral optics.
SUBSTANCE: method can be used in fiber0optic communication lines and integral optical systems. Method is based on switching solitons in cubic-nonlinear tunnel-bonded optical wave guides by weak signal pulses or by continuous radiation of the other carrier frequency. Switch is made from one wave guide to the other. Signal optical radiation is applied simultaneously with sequence of solitons to input of wave guide or to input of wave guide bonded with it by tunnel. Solitons have equal maximal intensity or their maximal intensity differs by value of 10%. Maximal intensity of signal radiation is at least ten times smaller than maximal intensity of solitons. Carrier frequency of signal radiation ω2 differs from carrier frequency of solitons ω1 at least by larger values 1/τ1 and 1/τ2, where τ1 is soliton duration and τ2 is signal radiation change specific time. Method allows to transform weak modulation of signal pulses with carrier frequency to stronger modulation of soliton sequence at proper carrier frequency to achieve higher amplification. Method also allows to reduce parasitic effect as short-time and low phase changes and effect of input phase of soliton on switching process.
EFFECT: improved efficiency of radiation conversion.
