FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: cracks may appear on glass-fiber plastic central pin of high- or medium-voltage insulator when compressing metal terminators. Proposed method is aimed at checking for cracks to provide for their early detection and prevention of their formation that includes following stages: measurement of force and/or pressure applied to terminators by pressure jaws in the course of compression; measurement of time taken for the process and distance run by jaws in the course of compression; detection of changes in ratio of force and/or pressure to distance. Force and/or pressure sensors are used in compression tools.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability of compression process control.
