FIELD: engine engineering.
SUBSTANCE: connecting rod of an internal combustion engine, which has piston and crank heads, rigid rod which interconnects them, and cover bolted to the crank head. The axis of openings in piston and crank heads of the connecting rod is shifted from the line which connects the centers of areas of cross-sections of the rod by the values determined from the formula Δi≤firi, where Δi is the value of shift, fi is the friction coefficient of materials of the pivot friction pair, and ri is the radius of the pivot. The axis should be shifted in such a direction to relieve pin-piston head and crank-crank head pairs.
EFFECT: reduced mass of connecting rod.
