FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: the present innovation deals with the fact that mitochondrial DNA lesions occur before the development of atherosclerotic lesions or simultaneously with them, that mitochondrial DNA lesion degree is increased due to the age and that both a genotype and a diet affect the level of its lesions. Thus, the present innovation shows that mitochondrial DNA lesions occur at early stage of atherogenesis and could be considered as an initiating event in atherogenesis. The present innovation, also, introduces the ways to predict atherosclerotic ischemic cardiac disease based upon quantitative level of mitochondrial DNA lesions.
EFFECT: higher sensitivity of prediction.
