FIELD: nuclear engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method and device intended for testing fuel elements in research reactors at pulsed increase in thermal power typical of reactivity-induced accident in water-cooled power reactor using running coolant for fuel elements involve following procedures. Power pulse is generated by fast displacement of neutron-absorbing shields rigidly fixed together along reactor vessel, their holding in critical position, and return to initial state.
EFFECT: ability of testing fuel elements in standard research reactor.
