FIELD: laser engineering; high-power rectangular gas discharge geometry lasers.
SUBSTANCE: proposed laser has two elongated surfaces with laser active medium in-between, pumping means, and plane incorporating closed axial loop of traveling wave optical cavity. The latter is optically unstable in mentioned plane and optically stable in certain direction. Modes of optically unstable and optically stable cavities jointly dictate propagation characteristics inside cavity and radiation beam output therefrom. Active medium of laser may be gas, solid material, or liquid.
EFFECT: reduced sensitivity of cavity to maladjustment of its inner components without no unwanted effect due to high light intensity in focal plane when focusing beam inside cavity.
