TIE-TAMPING UNIT Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

FIELD: railway transport; maintenance and repair of permanent way.

SUBSTANCE: proposed tie-tamping unit designed for consolidation of track ballast contains frame moved by drive in vertical plane, holders carrying tamping tools with plates on ends are installed on frame for turning around horizontal axles. Unit is furnished with vibratory driven and tamping tool feed hydraulic cylinders. Tamping tools in number of four pairs are arranged at two sides of each of two ties and from each side of rail, plates of each pair of tamping tool being pointed to each other, and tamping tools of two pairs arranged along tamping unit and arranged between ties are displaced relative to each other across tamping unit. Vertical axles of tamping tools arranged between ties are located in one vertical plane passing through axis of symmetry of unit, and vertical axes of tamping tools and plates arranged in adjacent ballast boxes are located in vertical planes parallel to said vertical plane. Plates of tamping tools located in side vertical planes are displaced through value exceeding thickness of plate with possibility of additional vibratory movement perpendicular to main vibratory movement of all tamping tools transmitted from vibration generator and spring-loaded members.

EFFECT: increased capacity, improved quality of ballast consolidation by decreasing resistance to penetration of tie tamping tools into ballast and decreasing formation of spaces behind plates of tamping tools.
