METHOD FOR DETERMINING HEMORRHAGES RISK FROM VARIX- DILATED ESOPHAGEAL VEINS Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

Abstract RU 2246893 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: method involves carrying out endoscopic examination using known esophagogastroduodenoscopy technique. Endoscopic ultrasonography is applied to increase self-descriptiveness and accuracy of the method and mucous membrane thickness is determined above the vein. No epithelial layer changes being found above insignificantly dilated vein with mucous membrane thickness greater than 0.9 mm, no hemorrhage risk is diagnosed. Veins dilation, when varix-dilated veins change under straining effort without narrowing esophageal lumen taking place with mucous membrane thickness being equal to 0.7-0.9 mm, slight hemorrhage risk is diagnosed. Veins dilated into the esophageal lumen and varix-dilated veins narrowing the lumen being available with mucous membrane thickness being equal to 0.5-0.69 mm, moderate hemorrhage risk is diagnosed. Significant vein dilation taking place, when esophageal lumen is completely closed with crimped varix-dilated vein trunks with teleangioectasias and mucous membrane thickness being less than 0.5 mm, high degree of hemorrhage risk is diagnosed.

EFFECT: high reliability in determining risk degree.
