FIELD: medicine; medical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: method involves introducing undiluted whole blood sample by means of capillary action into single use micro-cell having at least one cavity for receiving sample. The cavity is free of azides and nitrites and has essentially dry non-hygroscopic hemolyzing agent soluble in blood. It hemolyses erythrocytes and releases hemoglobin contained in the erythrocytes. Then, the first measurement of absorption is done in bandwidth of 490 to 520 nm directly in sample in micro-cell and the second measurement is carried out for compensating noise background. Device is used for spectrophotometric determination of hemoglobin in undiluted whole blood. Its cavity is free of azides and nitrites and has dried non-hygroscopic hemolyzing agent.
