FIELD: measurement technology; high-voltage measurements in electrical machine tests.
SUBSTANCE: square high-voltage pulses of fixed frequency are applied to electrodes. In the process pulse amplitude is gradually raised to value sufficient for initiating breakdown. Electrodes are exposed to voltage pulses of length equal to breakdown delay time thereby affording optimal conditioning mode shaping cathode surface with minimal gain of field across its microscopic heterogeneities. Then delay time and respective electric field strength across cathode are measured. This process provides for removal of restrictions on continuous operation time and on distance covered by moving object.
EFFECT: enlarged functional capabilities in determining moving object coordinates.
