OAR WITH THREADED JOINT OF HANDLE AND SHAFT Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

SUBSTANCE: proposed oar has blade fixed to lever which is articulated with shaft whose other end is made in form of semi-gear thrown into engagement with semi-gear of handle; oar includes also rod mounted at angle relative to shaft and articulated with lever at one end and with plate-oarlock at other end, thus forming trapezoidal articulated system consisting of shaft, lever, rod and plate-oarlock. This system makes it possible to turn blade in first half of stroke gradually reducing the angle of attack of blade from maximum magnitude to zero and gradually increasing the angle of attack of blade from zero to maximum magnitude in second half of stroke.

EFFECT: enhanced efficiency; increased speed of boat; possibility of rowing in way of motion.
