FIELD: non-destructive material tests.

SUBSTANCE: ultrasound echo-signals, passing through substrate of tested sample, are received and their amplitudes are measured. Fading of amplitudes is represented as function of hardness of engagement of covering, applied on opposite end surface of substrate. For this prior tests of calibrating samples are performed, allowing to produce correlation function.

EFFECT: no need for mechanical tests of samples.
