FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed light source, for instance incandescent lamp, has bulb 1, filament 2 disposed in bulb 1, and filament heater 3; filament 2 emits both visible light and heat. Lamp is designed so that filament 2 has flat section 4. Process for manufacturing such light source may include manufacture of filament 2 from sintered metal powder followed by exposure of filament 2 to atmosphere of carbon dioxide or mixture of carbon dioxide and inert gas mixture to form metal carbide. For final procedure, filament 2 is placed in bulb 1 whose inner surface is covered with mirror coating 7 formed by multilayer dielectric material.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of converting electrical energy supplied to light source into visible light.
