FIELD: navigation.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises using information on vectors of the magnetic field of the Earth, linear acceleration, and at least two projections of the vectors of angular velocity. The inclination angles, which are required for determining magnetic heading, are calculated by solving the set of tree equations. Two of the equations are the projections of the vector of the strength of the magnetic field of the Earth and vector of the linear acceleration on the vertical line at a given site, and third equation is the equation of the scale of direction cosines that define the orientation of the site vertical line with respect to the movable object co-ordinate system. To determine the actual angles of inclination of the movable object, the true solution is determined assuming the rate of variation of the direction cone obtained from the solution of the set of equations to be equal to the rate of variation of the direction cosine calculated from the information on two projections of the vector of angular velocity of the movable object and two direction cosines. The device comprises tree-component magnetometer, three-component accelerometer, and units for measuring the projections of absolute angular velocity and calculating direction cosines, angles of inclination, and angle of magnetic heading.
