FIELD: radiation monitoring.
SUBSTANCE: the proposed methods includes drilling of some holes near of a proposed place of being a nuclear material. The hole depth exceeds the depth of nuclear material bedding. The neutron field is investigated in dependence on the immersion depth, azimuth and neutron spectra in some holes. The obtained results are used for determining the dimensions, shape and position of nuclear material. The mock-up for method development has a measuring capacity in the form of a box, filled with the soil, the characteristics of which are analogous the characteristics of the soil of a proposed place of measurements. The mock-up ensures simulation of "infinite" soil with different element composition, humidity and inhomogeneities. The hole mock-up and nuclear material are also the parts of the mock-up for method development. The hole mock-up is fabricated in the form of a casing tube, with a neutron detector. The nuclear material is located in the additional tube. It is ensured the possibility of nuclear material displacement.
EFFECT: high efficiency and accuracy of measurements.
