FIELD: nuclear engineering; performing quantitative chemical analysis of deposit products from fuel element jackets.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method consists in bringing the fuel element jacket in contact with aqueous solution of mineral acids containing 60% of hydrochloric acid (1:1) and 20% of concentrated nitric acid. Solution is poured into cylindrical case made from heat-resistant and chemically stable pure material and is heated to temperature of (50-90)°C; fuel element or its section is placed into heated solution and is kept there till complete dissolving of deposits, after which solution is subjected to quantitative analysis for determination of chemical composition of deposits.
EFFECT: complete dissolving of deposits during minimum time without transfer of fuel element materials into solution.
