FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: spent nuclear fuel is placed into cases filled with water coolant which is injected with calcium carbonate in crushed form with lump size not larger than 1.0 mm in the amount of 3.0-5.0 g per 1.0 kg of heat transfer agent. EFFECT: increased pH of heat transfer agent up to 8.2-8.8 times, fivefold reduced corrosion rate of zirconium alloy, exclusion of possibility of occurrence of local corrosion, reduced activity of heat transfer agent by factor 102, improved radiation conditions in attended rooms of storages of spent nuclear fuel. 2 dwg
