SUBSTANCE: according to proposed method of vehicle power unit control depending on preset or desired values at least one output parameter of power unit is regulated using for this purpose one of preset or desired values chosen from number of all preset or desired values supplied for processing. In addition to preset of desired values, quality parameters or parameters characterizing some properties defining character of setting for preset or desired values, and to control power unit at least one such quality parameter or parameter characterizing some property is chosen independent of preset or desired values. Vehicle power unit control device has control unit with at least one computing element or processor into which preset of desired values to control power unit are fed and which is furnished with means to choose one such preset or desired value from number of all preset or desired values delivered to control device and use the value to control power unit. Quality parameters or parameters characterizing some properties defining character of setting to such preset or desired values are supplied to computing element or processor apart from preset or desired values, computing element or processor selects at least one such quality parameter or parameter characterizing definite properties apart from preset or desired values. Invention provides measured which, apart from coordination of preset or desired values, make it possible to coordinate quality parameters or parameters characterizing some properties and/or taking then into account at conversion into control actions to control power unit.
