FIELD: metallurgy, namely processes for continuous casting of rail steel.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of supplying steel to main mold having cooled plates with vertical ribs forming beveled angles in plate joining zone; using built-up mold in which relation of rib forming legs a, b is 1 : (1.5 - 2). Relation of small leg a forming vertical ribs to small side h of mold is 1 : (50 - 60). Relation of large leg b forming vertical ribs to large side l of mold is 1 : (30 - 33). Relation of small side h to large side l of mold is 1 : 1.1. Steel is cast at casting rate 0.5 - 0.65 m/min and at temperature of steel in intermediate ladle being by 10 - 45°C higher than liquidus temperature.
EFFECT: lowered number of continuously cast billets rejected according to surface flaws, less loss of yield, improved strength of mold, enhanced efficiency of billet continuous casting machine.
