FIELD: process engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy. Proposed method comprises feeding of metal from steel teeming ladle into pony ladle and, further, into die, drawing the billet from said die and cooling it in secondary cooling zone with soft reduction by pairs of rolls. Biller drawing rate is defined by the formula: V = ϕ L K Δ T 0.028 ϖ × h 2 where φ is dimensionless factor of casting thickness equal to 540…730; Lk is the distance from metal meniscus in casting mould to the segment last roll of soft reduction termination, mm; ϖ is dimensionless factor of solidus isotherms equal to 0.96…0.98; h is half the billet thickness, mm; ΔT is metal overheating in pony ladle above liquidus temperature, °C.

EFFECT: higher quality of casts.
