METHOD OF CLEANING WASTE WATER FROM DISSOLVED PHENOLS Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

FIELD: water treatment processes; cleaning waste water from dissolved phenols.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method consists in placing the aqueous model solution of phenol in working chamber, hermetically closing the chamber with cover and treating the phenol solution with electrical pulse discharges. Concentration of phenol in water is checked periodically; concentration of phenol may be reduced due to oxidation of phenol with particles formed at ionization of water under action of electronic processes at formation of discharge in inter-electrode gap and plasma of discharge channel. After concentration of phenol in water reduces to preset level relative to water being treated which contains mixture of phenol oxidation products, reagent-coagulant KC1 is added in fractional manner at increase of its concentration from 0 to 2n. As soon reagent-coagulant has reached sedimentation concentration, monofractions of phenol oxidation products form sediment. Sediments are gathered separately in filters, after which sediments are dissolved in 0.1 n NaOH and biological activity or toxicity of phenol oxidation products is estimated.

EFFECT: reduction of irrevocable losses of phenol from waste water.
