COMPRESSOR SURGE PROTECTION METHOD Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

FIELD: mechanical engineering; compressor manufacture; surge protection.

SUBSTANCE: invention provides protection of compressor from surges by means of clutches on permanent magnets with power calculator units and compressor shaft speed sensors transmitting torque from engine shaft to shaft of compressor. According to proposed of surge protection of compressor shaft speed sensors installed on clutch members of clutches mounted on permanent magnets whose outputs are connected with power calculator unit and control unit, angle of displacement of magnetic lines of force of clutch members relative to each other is measured and, basing on measured angle of displacement of magnetic lines of force, using power calculator unit, torque on compressor shaft is found and signal is transmitted to control unit, and when values of derivatives of constantly measured torque on compressor shaft and speed of compressor shaft reach definite values characteristic for beginning of surging, control unit sends order to open bypass valve.

EFFECT: improved reliability and reduced power consumption of centrifugal compressors by preventing of surges.
