APPARATUS FOR COOLING STRAIGHT-FLOW MOLD OF PLANT FOR SEMI-CONTINUOUS CASTING Russian patent published in 2006 - IPC B22D11/55 

FIELD: apparatus for cooling straight-flow mold of plant for semi-continuous casting of metal.

SUBSTANCE: mold is open upwards and it is mounted in frame combined with water distributing box. At starting each stage of procedure, mold closes moved stool from downwards. Casting chamber of mold is lined with permeable blocks for feeding oil and(or) gas and it has gate for supplying melt and zones for primary and secondary cooling. Secondary cooling zone is arranged just under primary cooling zone and it provides direct cooling of ingot with water. Apparatus is provided with separate circuit for secondary cooling of mold. Secondary cooling circuit of mold includes at least one cooling duct in mold wall and pipeline system for feeding and discharging cooling agent. Over cooling duct and(or) cooling chamber there are two sealing rings. Opening or passage is drilled between said rings; said opening or passage passes through wall of water distributing box and it is designed for draining water penetrated behind one of sealing rings.

EFFECT: rapid cooling of sealing members and walls of mold, lowered risk of water leakage from mold.
