FIELD: foundry production.
SUBSTANCE: method of casting an elongated ingot (90) includes semi-continuous casting in an installation (10) with direct cooling of the ingot containing a mould (30) with upper (31) and lower (32) holes, recording a thermal image of the ingot (90) exiting through the lower hole (32), and determination of the peak temperature in the thermal image. The peak temperature is compared to three established non-overlapping temperature ranges. The temperature in the third range is higher than in the second, and in the second – higher than in the first. If the peak temperature is in the first temperature range, casting of the ingot is continued. If the peak temperature is in the second range, information about the need for maintenance of the casting unit is issued, the casting of the ingot is completed, and the maintenance of the unit is carried out before starting the next casting process. If the peak temperature is in the third range, the casting process is interrupted and emergency stop information is issued.
EFFECT: ensures that metal does not leak out during the casting process.
