FIELD: engine engineering.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises accumulating energy required for igniting working mixture in the power accumulator, releasing energy in the device for generating igniting spark to generate spark discharge, repeated accumulating of energy starting before the end of releasing of the total energy accumulated, generating the next spark discharge, and measuring current in the spark discharge in the course of the generation of the spark discharge. When the current becomes lower than a given value, the repeated accumulating of energy begins. The device comprises energy accumulator for igniting working mixture, switching member for the energy accumulator that provides connection and disconnection of the circuit which connects the energy accumulator with a power source, control unit for control of the switching members, and device for determining the level and amount of energy accumulated in the energy accumulator. The control unit provides connection of the switching member at a moment when the level or the amount of energy accumulated in the energy accumulator becomes lower than a given value and provides its disconnection when it reaches again a given value.

EFFECT: enhanced reliability of ignition system.
