FIELD: analytical methods.

SUBSTANCE: detection of β-chlorovinyldichloroarsine (lewisite) involves use of thiooxalic acid bis(4-dimethylaminobenzanylide) as indicator. In particular, 1% solution of above benzamide in dimethylsulfoxide is used to impregnate filter paper strips, which are then dried in air. When in contact with liquid-droplet lewisite, indicator means changes its color from pale yellow (λ_max = 365 nm) to reddish brown color (λ_max = 450 nm), which is stable during a few of hours.

EFFECT: increased selectivity of detection.
