FIELD: coaxial joining of rails of quenched steels by friction welding.
SUBSTANCE: friction welding apparatus includes mounted one relative to other clamping units for ends of rails. Each unit is mounted with possibility of shifting from axis relative to opposite clamping unit in parallel to plane of parts cross section and also with possibility of fixing coaxially relative to part. Joined surfaces are preliminarily heated, then heated surfaces of rail ends are forced one to other and they are moved at shifting them from axis relative to opposite end of other rail. End face zones of rail are heated up to elevated temperature. Then rails are coaxially oriented and fixed. Along the whole surface of welding zone metals of part ends are joined under high pressure.
EFFECT: prevention of martensite structure formation in welding zone.
