SUBSTANCE: invention can be used at connecting of end face surfaces of rods particularly, shaped rods, for instance, rails of large longitudinal length by friction welding. First, ends of rods are checked for parallel alignment and axial alignment of rods in one line. End face surfaces, after checking, are brought to each other and are loaded by pressure. Ends of both rods vibrate towards each other and relative to each other, with provision of flexible bending. Friction heat appears on contact surfaces, and when conditions for metal joining of ends of rods are attained, they are aligned other over entire surface. process axially. Then load pressure is increased, and rods are connected to each other over entire surface. Process of connection can be combined with heat treatment of ends of rods.
EFFECT: provision of high quality of connection owing to parallelism of connected end face surfaces in process of welding and improved conditions of their heating by friction heat.
