FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, namely processes of steel melting in oxygen converters at lowered doze of cast iron or at using chemically cold cast irons.
SUBSTANCE: process comprises steps of charging into converter metal scrap; pouring melt iron; adding carbon -containing materials and slag formers to bath; using as carbon-containing material mixture of secondary products of graphitized article production including heat insulation material and carbon-containing material; feeding mechanically prepared mixture of secondary products of graphitized article production in the form of briquettes at next relation of components, mass %: heat insulation material, 45 - 70: carbon-containing material, 20 - 45, slag forming materials as binder, the balance.
EFFECT: enhanced slag mode of melting, lowered consumption of carburizing materials, improved quality and lowered cost price of steel.
