FIELD: surface hardening of metals with use of highly concentrated energy sources.
SUBSTANCE: process comprises steps of modulating oscillations generated by means of laser beam in crystal lattices of hardened metal with use oscillation of foreign electromagnetic source being coherent with first oscillations; setting oscillation frequency more than oscillation frequency of free electron density in hardened metal.
EFFECT: improved strength characteristics of hardened surface, increased depth of metal surface hardening.
