FIELD: foundry.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of assembling chill mold at placing core; pouring metal into chill mold; cooling metal; using core in the form of heat pipe. On outer surface of cooling zone there is thread cut by depth h =(0.15 - 0.3)δ where δ - wall thickness of core. After pouring melt metal to chill mold, heating zone of heat pipe is heated up. When temperature of cooling zone achieves value t0 = (0.9 - 2)t boil where t boil - boiling temperature of heat transfer agent in core, core is cooled by means of water-air mixture at water content 2 - 5 mass %.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of metal cooling in chill mold, possibility for controlling surface quality and inner structure of blanks of different metals.
