VISCOSITY METER AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING VISCOSITY OF A SUBSTANCE Russian patent published in 2006 - IPC G01N11/16

Abstract RU 2277706 C2

FIELD: measuring equipment engineering and automation technologies, possible use for determining viscosity of a liquid flowing through a pipeline.

SUBSTANCE: viscosity meter produces value Xη for measuring viscosity, which represents viscosity of substance flowing through a pipeline. For that purpose viscosity meter contains transformer 10 of vibration type, having at least one measuring pipe 13 connected to pipeline for passage of aforementioned substance. Under effect from excitation device 16 measuring pipe 13 during operation is driven to vibrate so, that friction forces active in substance are created. Also, viscosity meter contains electronic system 50 of measuring device, which provides excitation current iexc to excitation device 16. By means of electronic system 50 of measuring device, first internal intermediate value X1 is formed, connected to excitation current iexc and representing friction forces active in aforementioned substance. Also, electronic system 50 of measuring device creates a second internal intermediate value X2 representing heterogeneousness in substance, while electronic system 50 of measuring device then determines value Xη for measuring viscosity with utilization of first and second internal intermediate values X1, X2. In addition to that, intermediate X1 is preferably normalized by means of signal yAM for adjusting amplitude of excitation current iexc, connected to oscillations of measuring pipe 13. Due to that, value Xη produced by viscosity meter is, in particular, independent from mounting position of measuring pipe 13, highly precise and maximally stable.

EFFECT: production of highly precise and possibly stable viscosity measurement value independently from measuring pipe mounting position and oscillations of said pipe.
