FIELD: nuclear power engineering; gas-cooled high-temperature nuclear reactors.
SUBSTANCE: proposed fuel assembly has graphite blocks mounted one on top of other and provided with vertical annular bed of loosely filled fuel microelements. When fuel assembly is in operation, new fuel microelements are supplied continuously or in separate batches to top portion of bed and burnt-out fuel is discharged from bottom portion of bed. Refueling is made depending on operating principle of hourglass: fuel microelements move within bed from top downwards by gravity. In areas between adjacent blocks fuel microelements move through partition wherein their flow changes its direction in cross-sectional area of fuel microelement bed so that fuel microelements flow from central area of bed to its peripheral area and from the latter, to its central area.
EFFECT: improved characteristics of fuel cycle in fuel assembly.
