FIELD: nuclear power engineering; helium-cooled high-temperature uranium-graphite reactors.
SUBSTANCE: high-temperature uranium-graphite reactor core has graphite block with vertical coolant channels. Each channel accommodates graphite containers disposed one on top of other to form columns so that container spaces are connected in tandem to one another for coolant passage. Fuel rods in such core are concentrated in container spaces beyond main mass of graphite moderator block. In refueling the reactor the only parts discharged from its core are containers holding fuel rods. Main mass of graphite block remains in core for reuse.
EFFECT: reduced consumption of reactor graphite, enhanced unit capacity without enlarging vessel size.
