FIELD: nuclear power engineering; nuclear reactors with fuel assemblies built around fuel microelements.
SUBSTANCE: fuel microelement feed bin is disposed beyond reactor vessel and is designed for alternate communications between its bottom part and top parts of fuel elements through ball transport tubes. Reactor vessel cover has pipe that carries additional vessel mounted thereon by means of flanged joint. Feed bin is provided with its position retainer and is suspended within vessel for axial rotation to alternately align its top part with outlet ends of ball transport tubes. Bin is coupled with drive to provide for its rotation. Feed bin incorporates ball feed line. Reactor is refueled on hourglass principle without reducing its power capacity. Vessel cover should be opened only on specified requirements. Initial enrichment can be reduced by 30% due to continuous refueling without reducing burnup. Desired mass of reactivity correction system is accordingly reduced along with decrease in neutron flux non-uniformity in fuel assemblies and, consequently, in non-uniformity of nuclear fuel burnup.
EFFECT: reduced capital outlays and maintenance charges.
