FIELD: welding processes, namely method for electric arc welding of metallic articles of sufficiently large thickness and length by means of stationary consumable electrode.
SUBSTANCE: stationary consumable electrode is placed between surfaces of welded metallic articles. Said electrode is formed of M plates electrically insulated from welded surfaces of articles by means of sub-layers of dielectric material with thickness Δ. Plates are arranged one after another at lengthwise gap with value l1 = (1 -4)Δ between turned one to other ends 8,9 of adjacent plates. Plates are mutually electrically insulated by means of dielectric material whose thickness is equal to length of said gap. Each plate is connected to respective pole of power source by means of electric current supply lead 10 spaced by distance l2 = (1 - 6 )δ from tail end 8 of plate. Electric arc is ignited between lower part of front end of first plate and welded articles for forming welded joint due to self-stabilized process of moving welding bath distributed along butt height and for further cooling melt metal.
EFFECT: improved quality of extended welded seams due to elimination of superheating during the whole welding process.
