FIELD: wood working industry, namely equipment for making wooden members of living rooms.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of working adjoined surfaces such as steps of cutting lengthwise groove for diameter exceeding that of initial log. Adjoined surfaces are worked after working log surface at rotating it around lengthwise axis by means of tool moved along guides at log axis inclined relative to said guides till positioning upper generatrix surface of log in parallel to guides. Apparatus for performing the method includes: carriage moving on guides and supporting shaping mechanism in the form of milling cutter with concave cutting surface; lengthwise groove forming mechanism in the form of milling cutter with convex cutting surface; drive device; unit for cross motion of mechanism for forming lengthwise groove; unit for cross motion of shaping mechanism; stops of units for crosswise motion relative to carriage; centers for clamping log provided with mechanisms for their lengthwise motion; mechanisms for vertically moving said centers; rotation drive at least of one center for clamping log.

EFFECT: improved quality, increased speed of working logs.
