FIELD: fire-fighting methods, equipment or accessories, particularly to work out fire-protection measures for inhabited compartments of extraterrestrial objects under artificial gravity.
SUBSTANCE: method based on predetermined principles of material ignition and combustion under zero gravity involves arranging on-board electric equipment components included in circuits characterized by high current loads on structural members of pressure compartment formed of combustible materials in fire-safe zones, which are enclosed with fire-protective zones having widths measured from edges of members subjected to venting air flow and determined from reduced correlation:
where lzfl is width of peripheral fire-protective zone of structural member, cm; ▵zfl is distance from material surface to equidistant surface located over material, cm, wherein ignition source is between above surfaces; Vvf - velocity of venting air flow, which blows around member formed of above material, cm/s; Vlim.i - gas flow velocity under zero gravity and at a given oxygen concentration, wherein the gas flow velocity is maximal for material ignition, cm/s; Vg is kinematic viscosity of gas contained in the compartment, cm2/s.
EFFECT: prevention of material ignition in the case of fire appearance as a result of electric equipment components failure.
