FIELD: powder metallurgy, namely processes for producing steel shots by dispersing iron-carbon containing melts.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of preparing melt and heating it till temperature exceeding its melting temperature by 150 - 200°C; supplying to nozzle unit made with possibility of simultaneously feeding water and air pressurized energy carriers for producing particles with predetermined mean size depending upon dynamic pressure in zone of dispersing melt metal stream. For mean size of particles and carbon content in melt 0.4 - 0.6 mass % are provided desired route and time period of particle flying for achieving mean temperature of particles at their contact with quenching medium in range 800 - 850°C. Particles are cooled till such temperature in period τ =0.172dm + 0.165 where τ - time period of particles flying till their contact with quenching medium, s; dm - mean size of particles, mm; 0.165 - constant value. Produced steel shots are subjected to tempering at temperature 300 - 400°C for proving microstructure corresponding to enhanced shots of kind given in specification. Invention provides lowered by 1.5 - 2 times cost price of steel shots.
EFFECT: shortened period of high cost operation of heating for quenching in inert medium, significantly lowered power consumption, reduced cost price.
