FIELD: metallurgy, namely production of metallic fibers out of melt.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of extracting melt metal by means of disc-crystallizer from mixer which is moved upwards as melt is consumed. In order to prevent interim cooling of metal, for short time period contact of disc-crystallizer with melt metal is interrupted due to lowered height of meniscus. Height of meniscus is controlled due to pulse-width modulation of power voltage supplied in the form of different amplitude pulses to inductor and to electric drive of mechanism for lifting mixer. Apparatus for performing the method includes mixer for extracting melt metal; rotary disc-crystallizer; temperature pickup; comparator; temperature setter; pulse width modulator; thyristor type frequency converter; inductor; electric drive of mixer lifting mechanism.
EFFECT: enhanced quality of fibers due to providing stable temperature of melt.
