FIELD: metallurgy; electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and electrical engineering, in particular to devices and methods for heating liquid metal based on the use of electromagnetic action. Device comprises an annular channel made fireproof, an inductor with a magnetic core and a current winding, closed around the annular channel, connected to an alternating voltage source, power supply for powering the current winding, wherein the annular channel is made open and connected to the input channel and the output channel to allow the liquid metal to pass through, at that, the input and output channels are made with possibility of connection to the transport chute, the magnetic conductor of the inductor is collapsible, the annular channel is horizontal, the power supply contains an inverter based on transistors with a matching circuit, wherein current winding can use pulse-width modulation to control effective current value. Method involves excitation of alternating electric current in liquid metal by means of inductor with closed magnetic core placed around annular channel with liquid metal, at that, liquid metal is passed through the horizontal annular channel in a continuous or periodic mode, and a semiconductor voltage converter is used to supply the current winding of the inductor.

EFFECT: improving efficiency and reliability of the process of liquid metal heating by induction method.
