FIELD: forestry, particularly fire prevention, containment or extinguishing specially adapted for particular objects or places.
SUBSTANCE: method involves distinguishing the most fire-hazardous peatland zones; marking out patrol routes; performing patrol smoke inspection; detecting fire bounds site from smoke location and plotting coordinates of fire site bounds on forest fire map; drilling vertical wells in peat layer to mineral ground surface so that the wells are uniformly distributed over zone areas; casing the wells with perforated pipes filler with smoke-generation pyrotechnic composition and plotting well coordinates on forest fire map; determining fire site bounds from location of wells emitting smoke plumes. Distance between the wells is 100-500 m.
EFFECT: increased accuracy of underground fire site determination.
