FIELD: metallurgy; smelting of ferro-silicon alloys at 60-70% content in three-phase in ore-smelting electric furnaces with carbon lining of walls.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method consists in differential charge of burden materials on furnace top during operation of furnace; burden is fed into three zones of furnace top whose width is equal to 0.7-1.2 diameters of electrode; content of silica in charge is 70-100% by mass. Proposed method makes it possible to form buffer zones in gap between electrodes and furnace wall which are enriched with silica at increased electrical resistance, thus reducing fraction of peripheral shunting currents with no change in furnace wall lining.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency.
