SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for assay of venous blood oxygen level involving determination of oxygen content in venous blood (CvO₂) and oxygen content in arterial blood (CaO₂). The index content of oxygen in venous blood is calculated by the following formula: ICvO₂ = 1-(CaO₂ - CvO₂)/CaO₂ wherein ICvO₂ is the oxygen index content in venous blood; CaO₂ - CvO₂ is an_{arterial-venous difference of oxygen contents. Decreasing the oxygen content in venous blood is diagnosed at values ICvO2 from 0 to 0.68, and increasing the oxygen content in venous blood is diagnosed at values ICvO2 from 0.78 to 1. Using the method in carrying out the serial assay of blood samples provides carrying out the comparative analysis of oxygen content changes in venous blood in relative units at different states of body.}
