METHOD AND DEVICE FOR TREATING MULTIPLE RIB DOUBLE FRACTURES CASES Russian patent published in 2007 - IPC A61B17/56 A61F5/04

Abstract RU 2300331 C2

FIELD: medicine; medical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: method involves manufacturing splint for treating rib fracture cases. The splint is made by heating thermoplastic plate, applying it to chest, modeling chest shape and relief. The splint size exceeds floating costal valve area. Fixation with threads to the manufactured splint. The splint and ligatures are removed next to it after thorax stabilization. The splint is placed in a way that floating costal valve projection is in the splint center. The splint overlaps rib impression zone and fracture line on the right and left side. The ligatures are conducted with local anesthesia through thoracic muscles to rib projections and through costal periosteum close to the costal valve and intact rib segments. The ligature ends are introduced into the adjacent splint openings located most close to ligature exit places on chest surface. Ends of each ligature are tied together above the splint. The splint is attached to the chest. After having removed splint and ligatures, sterilization of places of ligature exit is carried out with aseptic bandages being applied. The splint is manufactured as plate having openings made of thermoplastic material. The splint has the following dimension parameters: the top base a = 30-32 cm, lateral faces b = c = 16-18 cm, bottom base d = 48-50 cm, splint height f=27-29 cm, angles α= 140-160°, β= 120-140°, an angle between the lower base and lateral face γ= 80-100°; distances between splint openings: horizontal one g = 5-6 cm, vertical one h = 2.6-2.9 cm; splint opening diameter = 4 - 6 mm; plate thickness = 3-5 mm.

EFFECT: simplified design and fixation process; reduced risk of injuries caused by fixation; individual splint selection.
