FIELD: protecting electric circuit and station high-voltage equipment against atmospheric and switching surges.
SUBSTANCE: proposed surge limiter has base insulation tube made of composite material lined with tracking-protective ribs provided on its external cylindrical surface and reinforced by metal end pieces, as well as at least one column built of spring-loaded coaxially joined varistor disks disposed between these ribs in base insulation tube space; this column is connected through shunt to upper end piece; space between internal cylindrical surface of base insulation tube and column is filled with heat-conducting insulating compound; hollow insulating-material needles with through duct providing communication between base insulation tube and space between external cylindrical surface of this tube and tracking-protective ribs are installed in insulation tube wall through its entire height.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability of surge limiter due to enhanced bearing capacity of insulation tube.
